Overview

 

WORKSHOPS AND CONFERENCES

Workshops and full-day conferences provide an opportunity for educators and professionals to enhance their knowledge base on topics relating to education, special education, behavioral health and youth issues while also providing an opportunity for networking among colleagues. All trainings are facilitated by presenters with expertise in their field. Workshop and conference selections are based on needs assessment from our member districts and our collaborative. Requests are highly regarded in the planning of all professional and family programs.

NEC Professional Development Weather Cancellation Policy

If Beverly Public Schools and/or NEC are closed due to weather, all  NEC PD events are cancelled for that day/evening. NEC closings are posted on WBZ. If the weather changes during the day, and there is an after school PD session scheduled, participants will be notified by email by 2:00. It is the responsibility of participants to check their email.

Youth Mental Health First Aid February 2025

The Youth Mental Health First Aid workshop teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adolescents ages 12-18. You’ll build skills and confidence you need to reach out and provide initial support to young people who are struggling. You’ll also learn how to help connect them to appropriate support. This course is intended for adults age 19+. Space is limited and registration closes February 14.
AFTER THE TWO 4 HOUR SESSIONS COURSE, YOU’LL BE ABLE TO:
  • Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD)
  • Recognize common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges
  • Understand how to interact with a young person in crisis
  • Know how to connect a young person with help
  • Better understand trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying
  • Training qualifies for 8 PDPs through Northshore Education Consortium
  • You must attend both sessions to qualify for PDPs and to receive a Youth Mental Health First Aid training certificate

COST: $50.00 includes materials, thanks to a grant from the Van Otterloo Family Foundation*

This training is for anyone age 19+ who works with or simply has contact with adolescents and wants to increase their knowledge of mental health among this age group. Please note this is not intended for those who are already trained in counseling or mental health.
